While one has come to expect ‘Murican Publican leaders to act as though they were members of a cult rather than a political party, the debacle around electing a Speaker of the House has revealed the Demorats are also incapable of acting in their country’s interests. Rather than support a more moderate Publican Speaker, they preferred enjoying the spectacle of the Publicans clawing at each other. Here in Kanadoodle, I’m sure our current Prime Ribber is wishing his opponents under Pierre (Cluck Cluck) Poulet could offer the same kind of cohesion.
As a lesson to both countries in why politics is more a sport than rational enterprise, there are two reasons the Demorat’s strategy was a bad idea. The first is that, unless there was a government shut-down of government services in ‘Murica, most of the populace didn’t care – there were no votes to be won from watching the Publicans attack each other. The second reason is that, since the extreme right wing of the Publican Party would never agree to electing anyone who wasn’t in their camp, the only possible outcome would be the election of a far-right leaning Speaker – a choice that further destabilizes an already polarized country and places greater risk to the entire world.
Since WWII, have there ever been more dangerous developments in the world than are happening now? Rooskie is using Nazi style tactics in its invasion of U-Crane, has withdrawn from nuclear arms limitation agreements and been threatening to use weapons of mass destruction. Hamash has goaded Israiling, currently led by perhaps the most unsuitable character in their history, into a conflict where indiscriminate bombing will only guarantee producing another generation of hate-filled terrorists on both sides of the border.
If ever there was a need for strong and intelligent leadership in ‘Murica it is now. The failure of Demcrats aside, watching the House choose a Speaker reminds me why Publicans are the Party least capable of dealing rationally with world issues. In reality, there’s little difference between current Publican ideology and their pre-WWII promotion of isolationism, deregulation and government directed by big business interests. It seems Publicans have learned nothing from their own history.
Pearl Harbor exposed the flaws of isolationism. A constant stream of greed-fueled market collapses like: 1987’s Black Monday, 1995’s dotcom bust, 1997’s Asian meltdown, 2007’s subprime mortgage debacle and recent banking collapses show just how well Republican deregulation has worked for America – who can forget the aftermath of 2007 when several trillion dollars of public money was required to keep the world’s monetary system from total collapse and the investment gurus who were responsible for the situation demanded that a chunk of that public money go to pay their bonus paychecks?
Alas, it appears that many voters in ‘Murica, like voters in Kanadoodle, have short memories and, when they enter a ballot box, they forget all these idiocies. How else could Publicans still champion the ridiculous ideologies that fueled these collapses and still get elected?
Whether they’re fighting over who is wacko enough to be an acceptable Speaker of the House, ignoring the global threat underlying Rooskie’s war in U-Crane or blindly following a billionaire crook who doesn’t believe in democracy, Publicans approach to history involves lots of antiquated ideals, loud braying about rights they want to remove from others and behaving like the ostrich in the face of danger.
TL-DR: When I watch Publicans in action, I can’t help but think that, in an age of nuclear weapons controlled by megalomaniacs like Rooskie’s Poutine, the next re-enactment of December 7th is going to go a whole lot worse than Pearl Harbor.
